Let me take you back to the late 90’s early noughties. In the Summertime, decked head to toe in Moschino & Versace, grooving to some sweet 2step garage without a care in the world… I know many of you can remember those days and Anisa, a talented up-coming Singer-Songwriter is demanding that you do with this lush Remix of a track called ‘Be My Star’.
The 90s Garage inspiration for this the track was something Anisa and her producer Bhav Knightstarr decided on at the last minute, after reminiscing over those classic hits from artists like Shola Ama, Craig David & MJ Cole. As some of you will know Garage has been making a big comeback on the scene it made such a mark on a generation ago. It seems the non-pretentious nature of the vibe and the emphasis on punters just going out have a good old dance with their mates and forgetting all their troubles, is something which is still relevant albeit to a younger audience nowadays. As the saying goes “If it aint broke don’t fix it…” and the extra addition of the occasional trap break in the arrangement seeks to bring it into the modern era.
You may not have heard of Anisa yet, but rest assured this young lady has been putting in the work behind the scenes, having just finished supporting such platinum-selling R&B heavyweights as Brandy, Ashanti and Neyo on their respective UK Tours. A performance on YouTube got her a personal invitation from the legend that is Brian McKnight, to come to record at his home studio in Los Angeles and write a song together – quite a feat for a girl from Manchester, UK, with big dreams. She’s previously been featured on tracks by artists like Chipmunk, and the one and only Wretch 32 guested on her first single release back in the day too. She’s definitely making the right connections and we at Urban Dubz HQ feel that it’s only a matter of time till you see her up there with her name in lights representing the very best talent the UK has to offer.
She has a voice that is made for the modern R&B market. Sweet, soulful sounding vocals, with a tone to die for, coupled with lush melodies and harmonies are the name of the game with the songstress they call ‘Anisa’. She writes all her own songs, and did I mention she is also a skilled pianist in the vein of Alicia Keys? Her live performances are flawless; and she knows how to control a crowd – a technique that she has been fine tuning for the last 5 years when so many others are too quick to rush to the big stage without the basics required to hold the attention of the audience and give a memorable performance.
Anisa’s EP is out later on in the year; featuring A-list producers Knightstarr and ADP who’s recent credits include “Chris Brown”, “JoJo”, “Yungen”…; and hot new in-demand UK rapper ‘Young Spray’. Anisa and her team are planning a big promotional push to get it to the right channels to ensure she gets the platform her talent truly deserves. Anisa is definitely one to watch, so when it eventually happens (which we are sure it will) don’t say we didn’t tell you!
